Photo-a-Day 2014: Day 2

This is a personal project I commence in January where I take a photograph of my children each day.  This exercise stretches me as a photographer, as a mother, and as a journalist.  This is my 3rd year on this project and I hope to continue it as the years pass.

She is a dreamer, an artist and an accomplished storyteller.  She imagines great adventures and simple pleasures.  She sees good in the bad things and sees bad in the good things.  She wonders, hopes, plans, designs, builds and implements.  She creates.

Today, she wanted to be an ice skater.  She wanted to be one yesterday, too.  This is her new persona in the imaginative world she lives in for possibly 75% of her waking hours.  She scavenged her dress-up clothes for a skating costume, donned her "skates", and performed a perfect 10 on the ice rink in front of an audience of 4: me, her older brothers and a sweet friend who visited today.  She did it all without an ounce of vanity or conceit.  She was just skating and twirling for the pure joy of staking and twirling.

Sometimes I wonder what it's like to be in her mind.  She travels to far off places one can only dream of going, yet she doesn't even leave the confines of her room when she embarks on her many journeys.  I can only imagine where life will take her one day.  In the meantime, I'm enjoying watching her revel in this little place we adults call "childhood".
