About me

My husband and I went through a series of counselling several years ago to help us out during some really rough times.  At the very first session, the counselor asked us to list out 4 things we knew about ourselves.  I wrote things like:

1.  I'm a mom of 3 young kids (there were only 3 then)
2.  I'm a SAHM (stay-at-home-mom)
3.  I home school
4.  I enjoy photography

The counselor looked at my list and then at me and told me that I listed things that I do or enjoy, but i told him nothing ABOUT ME.  I was confused at his response to me because I thought I did exactly what he wanted me to do.

His eyes soften and He opened His Bible and explained to me that who I am is not a reflection of what I do or enjoy, but instead WHO I AM is a result of God's great love for me and WHO HE IS.  It was this moment that the seeds of my Identity Theology were planted: defining who I am based on who He is and what He has done for me.

So, if you want to know about me, this is a more accurate description:

  1. I am loved by God (Eph 2:4-5)
  2. I used to be dead in my trespasses and sins, but out of God's great mercy, he saved me from all of that and made me alive together with Christ (Eph 2:1)
  3. I'm God's workmanship, created in Christ to do good works, which God has already laid out for me.  I just have to trust in the Lord and not lean on my own understanding as I walk along His way for me (Eph 2:10; Prov 3:5-6)
  4. God is pleased with me (Psalm 149:4)
  5. He will never leave me or forsake me, even when I mess up (Duet 31:6, 8)

I am not perfect, but I have a perfect Savior in Jesus, and because of that, I choose to live my life without fear of what others may think about me but live in confidence of the truth of WHO I AM in Christ.

May He be glorified in the life He has graciously given me!
